The Campbells came to Georgia from Randalstown, County Antrim, Ireland, where commerce and community were woven into daily life. They brought those values with them to Georgia. Brothers James and Robert established themselves in Augusta and Savannah, and each married into the prominent Eve family — James to Mary Roma Eve, and Robert to Catharine Eve Watkins, who were first cousins.
Most of the Campbells buried at Cottage Cemetery are within a generation or two of brothers Oswell and Joseph Eve. The exception is Arthur Campbell who is a third-great-grandson of Oswell.
